Dancing Identities: Finding Self, Sanctuary, and Freedom
Event Description
chitra.MOVES is so excited and honored to present- Dancing Identities: Finding Self, Sanctuary, and Freedom, a day-long series of free classes that explore dance as an act of authentic self expression, confidence, character, and unapologetic self-care. Throughout the day, you will experience forms of movement that, at the core, explore the spectrum of stories, personalities, and expressions within that make you special. Classes are taught by incredible DC-based artists who carry these themes in their movement and practice, and build powerful community in our city.
To close out this special day of dance, we have the Legendary VjtheDJ Prodigy/Supreme of DMVKIKINIGHTS spinning sounds for a mini-ball led by instructors and open dance hour to exchange!

Revolutionary Integration: A movement exploration of the individual within collectives
Instructor: Angad Kalsi
Sparking from movement foundations heavily influenced by hip hop and street styles (predominantly house, poppin', krump) accentuated via contemporary and modern forms - this hour of exchange invites the mover to integrate and expand their internal movement senses in tandem with the integration of that individuality within the surrounding community. How is our indulgence in artistic voice bolstered by tethering to self-defined "roles" in the collective?
This foundation is expanded through exercises of "3-dimensional audiences", momentum-driven movement incorporating floorwork, expanded definitions of fluidity, and senses of musicality across forms; manifesting as an adaptably negotiated melting pot of foundational drills, conversations, cone-guided connection games, space explorations, contextual histories, and short phrase work.
Through this format, the mover is encouraged to delve into conceptual applications beyond formalized class settings and into their broader artistic or communal approach if so aligned.
