chitra.MOVES

Chitra Subramanian is a professional dancer, choreographer, and educator residing in Washington, D.C. A Pittsburgh native originally from southern India, Chitra currently teaches, choreographs, and performs with an emerging collective of artists called chitra.MOVES. Her aesthetic draws from hip hop and Indian Classical foundations to tell stories, elevate artists, and meaningfully engage unseen and new audiences. For many years, she has shared her love for dance through teaching, choreography, performance, and learning. Chitra has performed and/or presented work at DanceUSADance on India's ZEETV Network, the Kennedy Center's REACH, the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage with Project ChArma, Dance Place, Joe's Movement Emporium and the Clarice through NextLOOK, and PearlPRESENTS Festival. She has also taught at various community-based and university settings, including CityDance Center, Sitar Arts Center, The Movement Factory, and Slippery Rock University's Dance Department. Most recently, Chitra presented TEMPLE, an evening length work as a part of Dance Place's Presenting Series in March 2023.
