Led by Spanish-born Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela, Sydney Dance Company is Australia’s leading contemporary dance ensemble.
Now, Sydney Dance Company comes to the Kennedy Center for the first time with the U.S. debut of Impermanence. A haunting meditation on the transitory nature of life, Impermanence merges balletic skill with striking contemporary dance. It’s set to new music by Bryce Dessner, a Grammy Award®–winning composer renowned for his classical music, film scores, and for being a member of the rock band The National. The culmination of two years of collaboration, Impermanence arrives as a hard-won achievement of hope and grace. The Australian String Quartet performs Dessner’s moving work live onstage alongside Sydney Dance Company’s “awe-inspiring” (In Daily) ensemble. This is an epic, driven performance that packs an emotional punch.
