This staged production is the modern premiere of Mouret’s Les Fêtes de Thalie, an opéra-ballet which broke with the French operas of its time by putting contemporary characters on stage. Opera Lafayette and Catherine Turocy continue this tradition by placing the action of these three very different stories in the modern world where every ruse ends in laughter.
Christophe Rousset, a leader in the contemporary revival of French baroque music, conducts, and Catherine Turocy, recognized as one of today’s leading stage directors in Baroque opera, directs. Three different choreographers and eight dancers join the talented, young cast of American singers that includes Opera Lafayette Artistic Associate Jonathan Woody , along with Angel Azzarra, Pascale Beaudin, Scott Brunscheen, Jean Bernard Cerin, Patrick Kilbride, Margot Rood, John Taylor Ward, and Ariana Wehr.
