Third Coast Percussion has distinguished itself through energetic and unexpected musical experiences that “push percussion in new directions” (NPR) and create “an inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune). The quartet’s visionary approach has led to thrilling new art from unlikely collaborations, including work with engineers, architects, and more. The first percussion ensemble to ever win a Grammy Award®, the group celebrates its 20th anniversary season with the most ambitious collaborative projects of its career, pairing with some of the world’s leading musicians, choreographers, and composers.

Jlin’s Perspective, a Third Coast Percussion commission featured on the program, was a finalist for the 2023 Pulitzer Prize.

Note from the Artist

David Skidmore

“This program came together through a mixture of styles and genres. Glass comes from the classical music world, and his music has interacted with countless other genres. Jlin’s music comes initially from intelligent dance music (IDM), footwork, and other electronic genres. Tyondai is somewhere in between—he has roots in experimental classical music and has worked as a rock musician and solo electronic artist.

The way classical music is written and performed is changing, and this program celebrates that change. Also, it’s a ton of fun.”
