Born and raised in New York City, Nikki Grimes began composing verse at the age of six and has been writing poems and stories ever since. Ms. Grimes has received numerous honors for her books, including the Coretta Scott King Author Award and recognition from the ALA and NAACP. In this program, Ms. Grimes reads from and discusses two of her well-known books, What is Goodbye? and Talkin' About Bessie, with moderator Maria Salvadore (recorded in November 2006 at C. D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA).
