Licensing and Location Agreement Inquiries

Thank you for your interest in the Kennedy Center. Individuals and entities that are not affiliated with the Kennedy Center must apply for a license to use Kennedy Center footage, and a location agreement to film or photograph on site. Please read the following information carefully before completing your inquiry regarding photography, filming, or footage at the Kennedy Center.

  • Whether directly related to the Kennedy Center’s work or incidental to the Center, commercial photography and filming at the Kennedy Center requires a location agreement, which outlines how the Kennedy Center’s image and name may be used and the appropriate location fee required to cover administrative and other costs associated with the activity.
  • Except in very limited circumstances, the Kennedy Center is unable to accommodate commercial photography and videography requests not directly related to its mission as a performing arts center and as a living memorial. Activities that have no nexus to the Kennedy Center or its programming will likely be denied.
  • Examples of common requests that are not accommodated include requests for generic sites of a certain size as a backdrop for a commercial, such as a “D.C. vista” advertising shoot; a stand-up location for a news story with a Georgetown backdrop; a generic wedding scene; or funeral scene for a film.
  • ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵÃâ·Ñ°æapp will occasionally license footage of past performances, including the Kennedy Center Honors and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, to accredited news outlets and to production entities. Licensing fees may apply.
  • ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵÃâ·Ñ°æapp will consider requests received with at least three (3) weeks’ notice.
