Sound Design and "The Wilhelm Scream"

Lesson Content

When does the influence of an artist on another cross over from homage to theft? In this audio story, host David Furst focuses on film sound design, with the perspectives of sound librarian Steve Lee, sound editor Mark Mangini (Mad Max: Fury Road, Blade Runner 2049), and legendary sound designer Ben Burtt (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, WALL-E). They explore the history of Hollywood sound effects including the infamous "Wilhelm Scream," which has been used in hundreds of films.
