Justinas Žlabys Composer
Justinas Žlabys is a composer and violist originally from New Haven, CT. He began his musical studies at Music Haven, a non-profit organization that provides free music education to children in New Haven. In high school, he left New Haven to attend Walnut Hill School for the Arts and the New England Conservatory Prep in Boston. Throughout his years at Walnut Hill, he studied violin, viola, jazz piano, and composition. His past teachers include Daniel Getz, Dr. William Cooper, David Zoffer, and Robyn Bollinger. Justinas is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree at the Juilliard School, studying with Dr. Melinda Wagner.
Justinas’s compositions have been performed at the Rockport Music Shalin Liu Performance Center and the New World Center. He has earned recognition from national and international competitions such as the Young Arts National Competition, the International Competition of the Vienna Academy, the Tribeca Composers Competition, ASCAP Morton Gould Composers Awards, FromTheTop, and the MusicTeacherGifts Competition.
As a violist, Justinas is an avid chamber musician. He has a particular passion for the Bartók and Beethoven string quartets, as well as all of Brahms’s chamber music. In the spring of 2024,
Justinas attended the Perlman Music Program spring residency for an intense two-week chamber music study. In past summers, he has attended the Perlman Music Program, BUTI
String Quartet Workshop, ENCORE String Academy, and the YOLA National Festival.
