Born in Xi’an, China, violinist Wanzhen Li has been a member of the National Symphony Orchestra since September 2015. Prior to joining the NSO, she performed frequently with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the New York Chamber Soloists, and the Grammy Award®–nominated ensemble A Far Cry. She also led the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard Orchestra, and New England Conservatory Philharmonia as their concertmaster. Li has appeared as a soloist with the Richmond Youth Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, Guilford Symphony, Grosse Point Symphony, Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra, and Xi’an Symphony Orchestra. As an active chamber musician, Li has been invited to festivals including Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, The Perlman Chamber Music Program, and “Spannungen: Musik im Krafwerk Heimbach” (Germany). She has shared the stage with artists including Itzhak Perlman, Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt, Peter Frankl, Laurence Lesser, Alban Gerhardt, Paul Katz, members of the Juilliard String Quartet, Cavani Quartet, and musicians from the New York Philharmonic. She has also served on the violin faculty at Eastern Music Festival (China) since 2014. Her solo and chamber performances have been broadcast on German radio “Deutschlandfunk” and Interlochen public radio. Her recording is released by Avi-Music record label. Li studied at The Juilliard School (B.M, M.M) and New England Conservatory (G.D.) under the tutelage of Ronald Copes and Donald Weilerstein respectively. She has also been mentored by Itzhak Perlman, Christian Tetzlaff, and Yoko Takebe. She plays on a 1756 Gennaro Gagliano violin generously on loan to her from a private collector in Michigan.
