Yasseen “Butterfly” Hassan
Yasseen, aka “Butterfly,” is a DMV native and student of various street dance styles. He began his dance journey with breaking in 2009, and since 2018 has been studying house dance and club culture.
Yasseen has competed in various competitions across the United States and internationally, with accolades including first place in the Freshest of All Time battle hosted by the Kennedy Center and Words Beats & Life in 2019. He has also performed the piece “When House Found Me” on stage at the Publik Playhouse in 2022.
Outside of dance, Yasseen is a DJ and community organizer in the club space. He is a cofounder of the collective Soul Service, a group dedicated to preserving and spreading club culture within the DMV.
