María E Composer

María E, born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a young composer based in New York City. As an undergraduate student at the Mannes School of Music, she has been refining her technique under the guidance of David T. Little, concentrating on ethnomusicology in her works.

María E has taken part in prominent programs such as Luna Composition Lab and BUTI Tanglewood, where she has broadened her expertise and network throughout the music community. María E’s collaboration with the renowned Kronos Quartet has been a major milestone in her career. She not only composed music for the quartet, but also played alongside them, demonstrating her flexibility and brilliance at Carnegie Hall.

Despite residing overseas, María E maintains strong ties to her Dominican heritage. She is the proud founder of a classical folk quartet back home, committed to conserving and promoting their country’s rich musical tradition while cultivating classical music locally. María E aims to explore and express Latin traditional music in classical music, with a passion for overcoming cultural borders via music.
