Andrew Eng

Andrew Eng, violist has gained a versatile reputation playing such diverse genres as Baroque, Classical, Tango, Jazz and Contemporary music. Eng’s playing has been noted as “intense and powerfully emotional” (Classical New Jersey) and The New Jersey Star Ledger described him as having an “instinct for the emotional pulse of a line.”

As a founding member of the two time Grammy nominated A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Eng has also been featured on the Boston Celebrity Series. He has collaborated with violinists Elmer Oliviera, Eugene Drucker, soprano Susanna Phillips, and pianist Victor Rosenbaum. Andrew has performed as a guest artist at Yellowbarn, Kneisel Hall, and Chautauqua festivals.

He served as a faculty member at Wellesley College, Groton Music Center and Point Counterpoint Summer Music Festival. He has coached chamber music in the NSO fellowship program and currently serves as a coach for the American Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Eng is currently a member of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and a former member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra. He performs regularly with the Washington National Opera/Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Andrew received his A.R.C.T. Performer’s Artist Diploma from the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, Canada, and continued his studies at the University of Toronto. He moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to complete his Undergraduate Diploma in Performance, and a Master of Music degree in Modern American Music at the Longy School of Music. He worked under the guidance of teachers and mentors including Zvi Zeitlin, Emmanuel Borok, Joseph Silverstein, Laura Bossert, Roger Tapping, and George Garzone.
