Sophia Kunxu Dou
Sophia Kunxu Dou studies at Juilliard Pre-College with Dr. Daniel Felsenfeld as a composition major. She is the youngest winner of ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards 2023 and a finalist in National Young Composers Challenge 2023. She won two "The American Prize in Composition" awards—Orchestra and Instrumental Chamber Music (high school division) 2024.
Sophia is a member of New York Youth Symphony since 2022 and has received honorable mention from Luna Composition Lab (2022–2023 and 2023–2024). She was enrolled in Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Composition Program in 2024.
Sophia's works have been recognized and performed by Grammy®-winning conductor David Alan Miller with the Little Orchestra Society in 2022 and 2024 (eight concerts), members of New York Youth Symphony, The Juilliard School, and Avec String Quartet at 14th Busan Maru International Music Festival. Her works have received readings from The International Contemporary Ensemble, Aizuri Quartet, principal harpist Emily Levin, and Coriolis Duo. She also aspires to be a film composer and has created electronic works featured on a YouTube channel with 7.35 million subscribers.
Additionally, she is a pianist, violinist, singer, and writer. Her poems and artworks have won first prizes in international competitions.
