Hannah Chen Composer

Hannah Chen (b. 2006) is a composer, harpist, and recent graduate of Oakland School for the Arts and the SF Conservatory of Music Pre-College. As a composer, Hannah is an alumna of Wildflower Composers Camp, SFCM Technology and Applied Composition, BU Tanglewood Institute, and Luna Composition Lab, mentored by inti figgis-vizueta. She was a Featured Composer at the American Harp Society’s 2023 National Institute and was commissioned by EXTENSITY Concert Series in 2023. Her works have received recognition from the ASCAP Morton Gould Awards, Penn State Ballora Wang Composer Awards, Bay Area Creative Foundation, and more, and she is a 2023 and 2024 YoungArts winner. She has worked with groups such as the International Contemporary Ensemble, Music at the Mission’s Chamberfest, and Argus Quartet.

As a harpist, Hannah has won first in the United States International Music Competition, first in the New York International Music Competition, the Grand prize of the American Soloist International Music Competition, and more, with additional awards from the American Harp Society and U.S. Open Music Competition. Hannah is the harpist of the SF Symphony Youth Orchestra and has been invited to participate in masterclasses with harpists Ann Yeung, Shelly Du, and Katherine Siochi. Additionally, Hannah interns for Ensemble for These Times, a Bay Area non-profit dedicated to equity in the arts, and curates concerts at senior homes across the East Bay. She is a first-year student at the Curtis Institute of Music.
