Catherine Elizabeth (SassyBlack) is a multifaceted creative force with a focus in the performing and literary arts. This Goddess of “psychedelic soul” & “hologram funk” explores sound through deep electronic compositions. A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts, she has been studying music and its effects on the human condition since she was a young girl. Having fostered a thriving solo career, she has been writing, composing, and producing all her music since 2014. As a writer, she has written interviews, reviews and opinion pieces for CRACK Magazine, Sound Fly’s Fly Paper, Okayplayer & Tom Tom Magazine and Seattle Weekly.
Along with her music, which has been featured on Adult Swim, BET’s “Twenties” as well as the Michelle Obama Spotify Playlist Vol. 1, TNT’s “CLAWS” her acting prowess has been featured on HBO’s Vinyl and Comedy Central’s “Broad City”. Sassy is currently working on her first musical "Emerald Jett", which was commissioned by the 5th Avenue Theatre’s First Draft program, as well as releasing numerous musical projects. She is also navigating the NFT world with several NFTs sold to date on Zora, Catalog, Rarible & Soundxyz.
With a decade of touring the world and releasing music independently under her belt, Sassy expanded into other aspects of the music industry including teaching, artist partnerships, consulting and now Music Director for Microsoft’s flagship events. In this new position her vision is to “evolve the sonic ID of the Event Broadcasting System” by creating thought provoking and soul engaging musical experiences. When not composing, researching, or performing, Sassy can be found DJing, writing or handcrafting masks.
