Support Jim's Legacy

Courage, freedom, justice, service, and gratitude. As a living memorial to President Kennedy, we are inspired daily by these enduring ideals that the president championed.

Our friend Jim Johnson embodied these values, making it his mission to ensure that the arts are inclusive and accessible. As the fourth Kennedy Center Chairman from 1996-2004 and later as a community leader, providing his guidance on projects like the centennial celebration of President Kennedy's birth in 2017, Jim has always had an acute understanding of the Kennedy Center’s role as the nation’s cultural center—and his impact is undeniable.

When you donate to the Jim Johnson Arts Access Endowment Fund, you will ensure that we continue to carry out his vision to make the arts accessible to all.

"My personal view is that the arts play a very powerful role in our society."

—Jim Johnson

In honor of its namesake, the Jim Johnson Arts Access Endowment Fund was established to provide arts and arts education programming for free to communities across the country, both in-person and online.

Your gift will support our free daily performances on the Millennium Stage as well as additional no-cost programs for patrons, students, teachers, and families.

The Millennium Stage

In 1997, Jim created and endowed the Millennium Stage—one of his most well-known accomplishments during his tenure as chairman. Its mission to present a free performance every day of the year was unheard of at that time and has changed the arts landscape forever, with over 8,000 free performances presented since its inception.

Now, Millennium Stage performances are streamed for free and archived online, making Kennedy Center performances more accessible than ever to audiences worldwide.

Support programs like the Millennium Stage by making a gift online below to the Jim Johnson Arts Access Endowment Fund. If you would like to make your gift by mail, phone, wire transfer, donor advised fund, or make a gift of stock, please see here for instructions or contact Megan Kimmins at 202-416-8328 or [email protected]
