BOONJI spaceman by Brendan Murphy

Join us in the REACH to marvel at Brendan Murphy’s 22-foot BOONJI spaceman sculpture, A Step Forward, constructed with carbon fiber and eight layers of silver-based chrome finish, weighing 3,000 lbs.

Defying convention and transcending boundaries, Murphy’s larger than life BOONJI spacemen delve into the complexities of human emotion and reveal deeper meaning. With the various poses representing a snapshot into an emotional feeling, Murphy invites viewers on an introspective journey to question desires and explore the unknown. For Murphy, no one epitomizes or embraces the impossible and art of problem solving more than a space explorer. Tracing his fascination with space back to his early childhood, consumed by understanding ‘who is inside the spacesuit,’ Murphy created the word BOONJI – Positive Energy Derived From Creativity.

Beyond his iconic BOONJI spacemen, Murphy is also widely recognized for his groundbreaking ‘otherworldly’ conceptual pieces, paintings, and sculptures. Through abstract and figurative forms, color, and universal symbols, including his signature formulas, and by using non-traditional methods and rare materials, Murphy pushes the walls of creativity beyond the confines of the canvas to explore themes of beauty, power, and human experience.

“I will always push myself creatively and am a big believer in trying new things,” states artist Brendan Murphy. “At the end of the day, life is liquid. We must keep evolving and feel brave enough to take a big leap, even if we are terrified.”

With international gallery representation and prominent public art sculptures in major cities around the world including Antigua (Caribbean), Houston (USA), London (UK), Mallorca (Spain), Naples, Florida (USA), New York City, NY (USA) and Oslo (Norway), Murphy’s work is sought after by the most elite collectors, solidifying his reputation as one of the most
innovative and revolutionary artists.
