This unique and celebrated brass quintet presents highlights of the development of brass instruments from the earliest trumpets to the present day. Utilizing a collection of historical instruments from the 16th to the 19th centuries, students are treated to a rare glimpse into the past as they hear Renaissance music and music from the Civil War performed on instruments that were played at that time. The program culminates with a virtuosic display on modern brass instruments demonstrating how the instruments have changed over the centuries (recorded in 2005 at C. D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA).
