Ezra Tozian

Ezra was the first out non-binary performer in D.C. and, along with their trans siblings, helped pave the way for future non-binary artists in the area. They have continuously been in conversation with local theatres and independent leadership on how to become more inclusive with their casting practices and how to ensure rehearsal spaces are more accountable. Through this work, they found their way to spearheading the public push to make the local theatre awards, the Helen Hayes Awards, gender-inclusive. In 2020, that goal was accomplished – and just in time to honor the first non-binary winners with performance awards!

Ezra’s acting approach has been recognized as “...maintaining the balance between fearlessness and self-control” (DCist). They are also known for their gritty intensity (both on stage and screen) and for their professionalism and highly compassionate collaborative style.
