Ewa PÅ‚onka

This season, soprano Ewa PÅ‚onka starts as Turandot (Turandot) in Hamburg Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Washington National Opera. She opens season in Dallas Opera performing the title role of Tosca and will make her debut at Zurich Opera as Lady Macbeth and in Teatr Wielki Warsaw as Aida.

Past season was highlighted by her appearance as Abigaille Nabucco in Arena de Verona and Aida in Narodni Divadlo in Prague. She debuted as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth with Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Royal Opera House as Venus Tannhäuser, Bayerische Staatsoper as Foreign Princess Rusalka, in the title role of Turandot in Teatro Real Madrid, as Abigaille Nabucco in Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and performances in Opera Highlights concert series with Dallas Opera.

Future seasons include returns to Royal Opera House, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Washington National Opera, among others.

Mrs. PÅ‚onka’s recent seasons were scheduled to mark her debut in the role of Verdi’s Macbeth* with Opera Philadelphia and as Turandot at the St. Margarethen Oper im Steinbruch, appearances with Canadian Opera Company in the Flying Dutchman*, as well as her return to the Dallas Opera in Don Carlo.*

On the concert stage, Ms PÅ‚onka performed as the soprano soloist in Rachmaninov’s The Bells with The Nashville Symphony, as well as in Delius’s A Mass for Life with The Grant Park Festival in Chicago. She was a featured soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah with conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing, at the Dallas Opera Gala she performed excerpts from Il Trovatore and Massenet's Don Quichotte.

Ewa Płonka is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she obtained an Artist Diploma in Opera Studies. She holds additional degrees in piano performance from The Academy of Music in Poznań, Poland, where she received her BM and MM with honors and held a position as vocal coach. She holds a second MM degree with honors from Oklahoma City University and a DMA with honors from the University of Utah.

As a concert pianist, Ms. PÅ‚onka has received multiple awards in international competitions and has performed solo and with orchestras in the U.S., Poland, Israel, France, Italy, Germany, and Norway.
