Max Hanjoon Kim

Max Hanjoon Kim is a composer currently living in Jacksonville, Florida. Growing up in New Jersey in a musical family, Max started his journey of music with piano and violin, eventually settling on piano being his primary instrument where he was auditioned and accepted into The Mannes School of Music. He then studied composition mid way through his first year with Ms. Kouyoumdjian which led him to the NY Philharmonic program for Very Young Composers. There he competed and won the opportunity to have his piece played by the NY Philharmonic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Max auditioned for Juilliard Pre-College as a composition major and was accepted in 2020. Flying up and down every weekend from Jacksonville to NYC, he now studies with Dr. Manuel Sosa and is entering his 5th year of Juilliard Pre-ollege. He hopes to continue to expand the range of instruments he writes for and utilize new ways of writing for future pieces.
