Elizabeth Askren

Praised for inspiring “virtuosic achievements from the pit” (Opera Today), Elizabeth Askren has empowered musicians worldwide as a conductor, educator, creator, and speaker. A master teacher at The Dallas Opera’s Hart Institute and conducting teacher at the Paris Opera’s Academy, she also appears regularly with leading opera houses and orchestras throughout North America and Europe.

An in-demand figure for masterclasses and international juries, Askren is known for her talks on leadership, cultural entrepreneurship, DEI, and the importance of classical music. Deeply committed to education, she is the founder and artistic director of Transylvanian Opera Academy (TOA), Romania’s first opera studio. She also created and hosts the children’s
edutainment series, Maestra Magic!

Askren holds degrees in piano and conducting from The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, and the Conducting Institute of Bard in the United States, as well as the Schola Cantorum and the Ecole Normale de Musique in France. Dividing her time between New York, Paris and Transylvania, she has consulted or served on boards for numerous nonprofits, education groups, and philanthropic organizations.
