Felix Contreras

Felix Contreras has been a journalist for over 45 years and has been with NPR since 2001. He is the cocreator and host of Alt.Latino, NPR’s pioneering radio show and podcast celebrating Latin music and culture since 2010 and books bands for the acclaimed Tiny Desk Concert series.

He also has a passion for and has reported on popular music from the U.S. From folk and jazz, to the crosscultural influences of the beginnings of rock and roll to the history of music recorded in places like Muscle Shoals, Memphis, New Orleans and even along the U.S./Mexico border.

He is also NPR’s resident Deadhead and leads a Latin music inspired Beatles cover band in the Washington, D.C. area.
